Chinese New Year: Seven Limited-Edition, Exceptional Accessories

No ruffled feathers around here – ring in the Year of the Rooster in style with a host of luxurious products for Chinese New Year, symbolic of luck, joy and prosperity

Chinese New Year (Saturday 28 January) is a time for family and festivity; fireworks, dining, dumplings, parades and, of course, dressing up. Forget naff roosters and cliché red knitwear this year – we have selected the finest, most luxurious, limited-edition accessories and statement designs for Chinese New Year 2017.

The Dior VIII Grand Bal Timepiece

Dior has designed a special Dior VIII Grand Bal Plume timepiece for Chinese New Year. The limited-edition watch features a glossy red alligator strap and a vivid dial in sunset hues, encased in glistening diamonds.

The Dior VIII Grand Bal features Dior’s patented Inversé calibre movement, defined by an oscillating weight placed on top of the dial, composed of elegant rooster feathers. The feature is inspired by the dramatic swirl of a ball gown and Christian Dior’s love of grand parties. The silky Italian rooster feathers lend themselves perfectly to the design, providing the ideal density without compromising on fluffiness.

The mesmerising watch is a unique and opulent coversation piece, imbued with time-honoured, haute couture glamour.

Limited edition of 88 pieces, £24,600; 160-162 New Bond Street, London, W1S 2UE, www.dior.com

The Chinese New Year Collection by Loewe

Loewe has launched a limited-edition collection of bags, pouches and silk scarves to honour the Year of the Rooster, adorned with a vibrant daffodil motif. The iconic Barcelona bag and practical T-Pouch have both undergone a decorative transformation for Chinese New Year, adorned with striking flower prints. Loewe has also launched two eye-catching, silk square scarves featuring the vivid floral design.

The Spanish fashion house has flexed its marquetry muscles by using signature leather techniques including an elaborate inlay process, in which each floral motif is meticulously handcrafted from laser-cut leather fragments and delicately applied to the bag.

According to Chinese tradition, the daffodil flower is symbolic of good fortune and the renewal of life customarily associated with Spring.

Wendy Yu Clutch by Ethan K

Luxury accessories label Ethan K has designed a exotic leather bag named after his BFF Wendy Yu, the London-based Chinese society princess-turned-savvy entrepreneur. After discussing their similar upbringings in Asia, the pair discovered a mutual love for the purple magosteen fruit, which inspired the clasp that adorns the Wendy Yu bag. Available exclusively at Harrods, each design takes six months to create and is available in eight exotic colourways, finished with a detachable chain.

Founded by Singaporean designer Ethan Koh in 2011, the label is renowned for its opulent, bespoke croc creations in vivid hues. Koh is the fourth-generation son of Heng Long International tannery owner CT Koh in Singapore and all skins are sustainably sourced.
