DS Automobiles launches first contactless car key

Forgotten your wallet? You can now pay using the UK’s first contactless payment car key

DS Automobiles has launched the UK’s first car key with built-in contactless payment technology.

Powered by bPay by Barclaycard, the DS 3 Connected Chic contactless payment car key features a built-in payment chip which uses Radio-Frequency IDentification (RFID) technology.

Only those who buy a DS 3 Connected Chic model throughout September within the UK will receive the contactless car key, allowing them to make purchases up to the value of £30.

Owners will be able to track their spending, top up their balance, and block or cancel the contactless payment element by downloading the bPay app available on iPhone or Android devices.

The DS 3 Connected Chic is the new model from the French luxury brand, which combines stylish design with modern technology. Details include 17-inch black diamond-cut ‘Aphrodite’ alloy wheels, automatic air-conditioning and eMyWay satellite navigation.

The launch of the DS contactless payment car key coincides with the 10th anniversary of Barclaycard introducing contactless payments to the UK.

Tami Hargreaves, Director of Innovation and Partnerships at Barclaycard Mobile Payments said; “Today’s time-pressed consumers are looking for hard-working, multifunctional technology. By providing our bPay chips to power the payments behind the new DS 3 Connected Chic, we’re offering drivers a fast, easy and secure way to make everyday purchases with just a touch of their car keys. On the 10th anniversary of Barclaycard introducing contactless payments to the UK, this partnership represents another exciting step on our journey to push the boundaries of what ‘touch and go’ technology can do. We will continue to pursue other ways to build ‘the connected car’, so watch this space.”

Mark Blundell, UK Marketing Director at DS Automobiles UK said; “At DS we’re always looking at how we can credibly complement our customer’s active lifestyles, where staying connected and being able to easily interact with the world is key. With the combination of connectivity features integrated into DS 3 Connected Chic models, and the ability to make those must have purchases by using one integrated device – with the DS contactless payment car key, we really feel we have achieved this.”
