The renowned designer teams up with the popular magician to create an unusual wallpaper collection
We'll be honest, it’s not a partnership we’d have dreamed up. While we’d kill to get Kelly Hoppen’s input for our pad, we’re not sure we’d necessarily let Dynamo loose on the walls.
That said, put the two together and the results are… magic.
The unlikely duo has teamed up to create their first collaboration for Graham & Brown. The Illusionist Wallpaper Collection blurs the boundaries of design and magic to revolutionise the way we look at space in our homes.
“When Dynamo and I initially met and started discussing the idea of an illusion wallpaper, I had no idea how fascinating it would be to work on such a different project,” Hoppen comments.
“Having been in the design industry for 40 years, there isn’t much I haven’t done, but magic was new to me and I enjoyed every second. I like to think I create magic in people’s homes on a daily basis but now I can say I have done the real thing, with the mystery man himself!”
The initial collection is comprised of two designs; Enigma, a three-dimensional protruding pillar effect and Paradox, which replicates an angled, jutting wall of stone. By using the latest printing technology, Hoppen and Dynamo were able to think outside of the usual design restrictions and use a trompe l’oeil technique to create and optical illusion of depth, giving the illusion of additional space within the home.
"I wanted to bring a bit of magic into people's homes,” Dynamo explained. “I'm thrilled with the results and even more delighted that part of the profits will go to the Princes’ Trust, a charity that was key in helping me start my magical journey."
Whether you fancy a novel feature wall or you’re designing a full-on optical illusion room, getting that effect is now as easy as “abracadabra”.
