Ahead of London Fashion Weekend, we speak to brand ambassador Daisy Lowe, plus your chance to win tickets to the most stylish shopping extravaganza of the year
This month, the Saatchi Gallery will be transformed into a four-day extravaganza of shopping, shows, makeovers and more for London Fashion Weekend. Temperley, Holly Fulton, Mary Katrantzou and Emilia Wickstead will be among the designers sending their latest collections down the catwalk, presented by an all-star fashion pack including George Lamb, Martha Ward and Laura Jackson.
There will also be a series of panel talks with esteemed industry insiders including Charlotte Olympia, Rankin, Nicholas Kirkwood and Fashion Weekend ambassador, Daisy Lowe.
Lowe took a break from her busy sartorial schedule to discuss her role models, favourite trends and London's hidden treasures.
When it comes to fashion and style, how does London differ?
I feel very privileged to come from such an incredibly creative and stylish city. London is home to some of the most extraordinary talent and we’re extremely lucky that the British Fashion Council is so nurturing with our young designers. London’s designers are always fearless when creating their collections and all of us who love fashion are always excited to decorate our bodies with whatever beautiful creations they make.
Can you suggest any hidden treasures for shopping in London?
Rellik on Golborne Road always has so many vintage treats and I also love Jane Bourvis on Golborne Road too; her shop is a girly tulle heaven! I am also a big fan of Adam Simmonds for amazing sunglasses and eyewear on Regents Park road.
What is your favourite throw-on look?
Suit trousers, a soft cotton t-shirt, a pair of ballet shoes and a red lip.
What are your handbag essentials?
My Charlotte Olympia Feline Card Holder, house keys, Dr Lipp lip balm, my mini Mason Pearson hairbrush and my de Mamiel water spray.
What is the best piece of style advice you have been given?
Always feel comfortable in what you are wearing, it exudes confidence.
Who are your role models?
Katharine Hepburn, Elizabeth Taylor and Carol Ann Duffy.
What is your favourite current trend or look?
I'm absolutely obsessed with a good tailored suit at the moment teamed with heels.
Do you think the fashion industry's attitude towards body image is changing?
Yes definitely, I have been in the industry for 10 years now and there is so much more variation in the girls in our magazines. It will be great when we don’t have references such as ‘plus size’ and professionals are referenced as ‘models’.
If you could meet yourself as a teenager, what would you tell your younger self?
Enjoy the ride and hold on tight!
What collections are you most excited about at London Fashion Weekend?
All of them really. Emilia Wickstead is a favourite of mine but I am also looking forward to seeing Temperley London, Mary Katrantzou and Holly Fulton. The shopping opportunites at London Fashion Weekend are also fantastic so I can’t wait to have a good look around at all the different brands and no doubt make some purchases.
