The newly opened London Grace salon in Canary Wharf offers so much more than your average manicure, as Luxury London discovers
For a long time I spurned the salon manicure. Why would I spend money on something that I could easily do myself? Then came the life-changing moment when I tried a Shellac manicure for the first time. Glossy, sleek and endlessly hard-wearing, I was sold. Suddenly I could do the dishes, wash my hair and spend an hour in the pool without having to worry about those infuriating chips, which constantly threaten to expose my true scruffy self through the (attempted) polished veneer.
Whether you’re a fellow worshipper at the shrine of Shellac or prefer a regular mani, the newly opened London Grace in Canada Place does it all. With a focus on social experiences as well as stellar treatments, the salon is promoting afternoon tea and corporate packages, where you can have exclusive use of the space and enjoy drinks and snacks alongside your mani-pedi.
Networking, nails and cocktails? Sounds like it’s on to a winner.
I’m greeted at London Grace with a drinks menu to rival any reputable cocktail bar; morning drinks range from lattes to iced teas, while cocktail hour options include espresso martinis and Aperol spritzes, alongside seasonal summer specials.
My gel manicure was expertly done. Nails were shaped, cuticles trimmed and polish applied and dried in the time that it took to finish my glass of Prosecco; a dream for the girl who starts to get restless about 30 minutes into any treatment.
If you can’t spare the time or prefer a DIY mani, it’s worth starting with a high-quality base coat that not only helps to make sure your polish stays put, but also provides nourishment. Nails Inc’s NailKale Superfood is one of the best, with kale extract that strengthens and smooths tired nails.
When it comes to colour, Bobbi Brown has launched a new nude shade for summer, which contains just the right amount of shimmer and will look fabulous with a tan, while those with holidays on the horizon may be looking to embrace more adventurous neon brights, such as the ones seen at Nails Inc and YSL Beauté. Actually, who says these are only for holidays? Wear them every day for an instant injection of sunshine.
