Longines honours the 60th anniversary of the iconic Flagship timepiece with a commemorative new watch, steeped in maritime history and sixties style
This year Longines celebrates the 60th anniversary of the Flagship timepiece, an iconic watch recognisable by its clean lines and distinctive medallion, engraved with a caravel sailing ship.
To honour the landmark year, the luxury Swiss watchmaker has released an exceptional, limited-edition anniversary timepiece coined the Flagship Heritage. The handsome design was inspired by an original Flagship model favoured by brand ambassador Kate Winslet. The English actress personally chose the face of the commemorative new watch, which is available in steel, yellow gold and rose gold.
The Flagship is so-called after a principal caravel sailing ship; a small, speedy vessel with a distinguishing flag, used by the Spanish and Portuguese during the 15th century for trade and exploration.
The new Flagship Heritage draws on the style codes of the '50s and '60s, defined by a brushed silver dial, dauphine hands and Arabic numerals
Longines sold its first Flagship in 1957. The dress watch became an instant hit and is now an icon of the decade, synonymous with refined elegance and exceptional performance.
The new Flagship Heritage draws on the style codes of the 1950s and '60s, defined by a brushed silver dial, dauphine hands and Arabic numerals, finished with a brown alligator strap. Each numbered watch is powered by the caliber L609 and displays an engraved, signature ‘flagship’ caravel on the back, akin to the original design. There will be 1957 steel watches made, a number chosen in reference to its heritage, alongside 60 gold watches.
