Wellness without weariness – La Suite West Hotel partners with NOSH Detox on a garden kitchen menu of innovative raw and vegan superfood delights
Set in a capacious townhouse in west London with interiors by Anouska Hempel, La Suite West is a chic, boutique hotel that stands out against its Hyde Park contemporaries for its focus on healthy and predominantly vegan food.
On a warm summer evening, the star attraction is the leafy al fresco terrace; a zen den of tranquillity amid the bustle of Bayswater, strung with pretty fairy lights. It is here that my friend and I decamp to try the new Garden Kitchen menu, launched in partnership with NOSH Detox.
Founded in 2008 by Geeta Sidhu-Robb, NOSH is renowned for its nutritious, bottled smoothies and cleansing cuisine and counts Georgia May Jagger, Madonna and Gwyneth Paltrow among fans. It launched a bricks-and-mortar clinic on the King’s Road earlier this year and the collaborative menu marks the next step for the pioneering health and goodness guru.
I make like Madonna and select from a NOSH menu of gluten and preservative-free dishes, loaded with guilt-free flavour. Forget dry, limp salads and sad sandwiches – here, healthy meets deft and delicious in the form of dainty courgette rolls stuffed with olive tapenade and red and green pesto, or creamy cashew cheese, sandwiched in betroot carpaccio discs.
My Caesar salad swaps chicken for grilled tofu, tossed with white beans and a sweet artichoke and citrus dressing, while my friend’s black bean and mushroom burger is well-seasoned and stacked in a gluten-free patty, served with crunchy sweet potato fries.
Dishes are paired with zesty mocktails – something I usually write off as sugar-high imitations reserved for designated drivers. I manage to put away three of these thirst-quenching, sophisticated tipples however, which are packed with antioxidants and not a sugar cube in sight.
The new Garden Kitchen menu is a feel-good, free-from fest that doesn’t scrimp on flavour, set in an urban oasis in West London. Yes, candy is dandy and liqueur is quicker, but we all need a little NOSH now and again. I’ll be back for hangover-free, second helpings very soon.
