The former offices of London's first celebrity chef is now a luxury penthouse. Peter Langan’s £5.25 million Mayfair pad is for sale through Knight Frank & CBRE
The offices and studio of the late restaurateur Peter Langan (1941-1988) have been transformed into a £5.25 million Mayfair penthouse that is for sale through Knight Frank and CBRE.
Amazon Property transformed space at 6-8 Maddox Street into a 2,142 sq.ft. (199 sq.m.) dressed duplex penthouse.
Irishman Peter Langan was the son of rugby international and petrol station businessman Dan Langan. He moved to England in the early 1960s and began a career in catering working at French restaurant Odin’s at 26 Devonshire Street in Marylebone. Actor Michael Caine enjoyed Langan’s cuisine and became his business partner. They opened Langan’s Brasserie on Stratton Street in Mayfair in 1976 (and were later joined by chef Richard Sherpherd), which went on to become one of London’s most fashionable haunts for celebrities including Elizabeth Taylor, Princess Margaret, Marlon Brandon, Mick Jagger and Jack Nicholson.
Langan was London's first celebrity chef and celebrity restaurant owner. As his restaurants flourished, 6-8 Maddox Street became the offices for the restaurant group – it had floors for the finance department, recruitment and events/private dining, with a studio on the top floor.
The building itself is Edwardian Neo-Baroque and was originally constructed in the early 1900s by architect Ernest George (1860-1922) as a commercial building with lodgings on the upper floors.
The dressed penthouse on the top two floors provides 2,142 sq.ft. (199 sq.m.) of luxurious living space, including four bedroom suites, large reception space, two private rooftop terraces and balcony.
The former Langan offices on the lower floors have been beautifully restored and architecturally enhanced to provide four luxurious apartments; now all successfully launched and sold.
Chris Lanitis, Director at Amazon Property said: “This spacious and luxurious duplex penthouse is located in Mayfair’s fashion quarter just a short stroll from the luxury boutiques of Bond Street, Conduit Street and Regent’s Street. Mayfair is London’s most sought after ‘blue-chip’ address, with more 5-star hotels, top rated restaurants and VIP clubs/bars than any other district in the capital.”
