Royal Ascot's vivacious history is brought to life on a hand-painted globe, on display at Christie's auction house in Mayfair
Ascot Racecourse has unveiled a one-of-a-kind globe, adorned with 30 hand-painted, whimiscal illustrations that highlight Royal Ascot’s heritage and rich narrative. The enchanting globe, titled A World Like Nowhere Else, is currently on display on Christie’s to coincide with the Sporting & Wildlife art sale.
The beguiling conversation piece was created by London globe-makers Bellerby & Co and features floating cakes, the famous Bandstand, a fleet of helicopters whirring above ladies in dresses and a cascading champagne waterfall. Ascot is a perennial staple on London’s summer calendar, bringing together horses, pageantry, cullinary delights, fashion and fabulous hats for five days of world-class racing, rich with nostalgia and steeped in history. All of this is reflected on the globe, which will remain at Christie’s for two weeks before touring South-East England, including stops at The Ritz, Raymond Blanc’s Bemond le manoir aux Quat’Saisons and a fortnight at The Hurlingham Club in Fulham, before finally taking centre-stage at Ascot from 20-24 June.

The hand-crafted masterpiece took just under three months to complete. The design of the base was inspired by a traditional Philips globe from the early twentieth century, hand-turned and polished in London from cherry wood, complemented by a brass arm.
“The globe brings relevance and vibrancy to an art form that has been passed through generations,” said Juliet Slot, commercial director for Ascot Racecourse. “Our customers have told us that when they come to Royal Ascot they take a moment out of the everyday and step into another world. Our aim is to capture this sentiment and bring to life the intricacies of what the world of Royal Ascot is in the form of the globe.”
