On the Tudor trail with William & Son: the luxury lifestyle brand unveils a new collection to mark the National Portrait Gala this month, inspired by royal history
Aquamarine is the birthstone of March, which makes it a fitting month for William & Son to launch an extra-special new jewellery collection that spotlights the scintillating stone.
William & Son is a patron of the National Portrait and lead sponsor of the Portrait Gala 2017, taking place on 28 March, and the one-of-a-kind collection has been designed with this in mind.
It comprises of a transformable diamond necklace with a bedazzling, detachable oval aquamarine centre stone, weighing in at 20.62 carats and matching earrings with cushion-cut aquamarine stones, totalling 13.71 carats.
Created by in-house designer Nicola Sanderson and gemologist Clemence Devaux, the mesmerising collection draws inspiration from the Tudor period. It pays homage to Henry VIII, Anne Boleyn and daughter Queen Elizabeth I, notably referencing the iconic ‘Ditchley Portrait’ of Elizabeth, which hangs in the Tudor Room at the National Portrait Gallery.
The majestic stone is surrounded by 11.3 carats of baguette cut diamonds, a design informed by Elizabethan ruffs. Diamonds frame the stone akin to how a ruff once framed the face, now a historic hallmark for social status and opulence.
Intricate, thoughtful details permeate the handcrafted collection, from the transformable qualities of the necklace to the discreet weights that sit on the earring, to ensure that the stones always face the correct way. It is a contemporary style that sparkles with British aristocratic history, guaranteed to make you feel truly royal.
